Project:
Embassy
Sector:Food & Beverage
Size: 5,820 SQ/FT
Location: Wan Chai, Hong Kong

The aim of this project is to create and design Embassy to be one of the Largest Nightclub/Bar in the Area with 5,820 sq. ft. The space is aimed to rejuvenate the nightlife of the Wan Chai area, by designing a new, youthful yet high end location to attract people from all over Hong Kong.

An original design theme is required for promoting the uniqueness of the Nightclub/Bar. This design theme and concept should also accommodate the low ceiling height of the original space.

Originally an office space at basement level, the site has a very low ceiling of 2400mm height, the biggest challenge is to design everything so well, so that it can accommodate all required E&M items, as well as to be able to fit all lighting and sound equipment which is very important for the environment.

We took this sizeable location to the next level by multiple pop-up stages for entertainment performances, as well as a grand centre bar. Behind the stage is the centre piece DJ booth with intense lighting and sound system throughout Embassy. The performance stage area consistently incorporates the parametric rule that involves each step being an extruded offset of the object’s footprint. These lines are skilfully integrated into the design, creating a subtle and effective fusion with the representation of sound waves. This clever utilization is particularly notable in the DJ and stage area.

The design of the entrance is a crucial and carefully considered element of the overall nightclub layout. While the actual dimensions of the entryway are relatively narrow, the strategic use of mirrored wall surfaces cleverly extends the perceived sense of space and volume.

This mirrored treatment not only makes the entrance feel more expansive, but it also reflects the repetitive geometric pattern of the ceiling above.

The interplay of the mirrored walls and the patterned ceiling creates an eye-catching visual effect, adding visual intrigue and depth to the entryway.

The result is an entrance that feels more open, airy, and welcoming than its physical dimensions would suggest. This inviting first impression helps draw visitors deeper into the underground nightclub space beyond. The mirrored walls create an illusion of greater size and depth, acting as an architectural trick to enhance the sense of arrival and anticipation.

This entrance design serves as an enticing invitation for guests to venture further into the heart of the nightclub.

The layout of the nightclub is structured around the island bar, which serves as the central focal point of the entire space. The overall design adheres to a relatively simple parametric design principle – each individual architectural element, from the steps to the various surfaces, is essentially an extruded offset of the original footprint or outline of the object.

This consistent parametric design approach is most prominently featured and showcased in the construction and appearance of the central island bar. The bar itself appears to be the primary anchor and organizing point for the nightclub’s spatial arrangement and aesthetic. By basing the design on a systematic parametric methodology, we have created a cohesive visual language that unifies the different components of the nightclub interior.

The repetition of the extruded offset technique gives the space a sense of rhythm and visual continuity, drawing the eye towards the island bar as the central focal point. This parametric design principle helps to establish a clean, minimalist aesthetic throughout the nightclub while still creating visual interest through the layering of forms and surfaces.

We have designed 3 custom VIP rooms, each with a different theme but continuing the same concept and fitted with a platform for music and dance performances. The rooms are dedicated for private groups, where guests can experience night life in a spacious room with its own independent TV screens and sound systems.
