Ripples aims to create a unique and immersive interior experience that transports users and customers to a serene environment by mimicking the tranquillity of ocean waves during sunset.

The objective of the Ripples project is to create a beachside sunset environment for patrons to unwind in the middle of the bustling city of Hong Kong. The design concept incorporates wave-like curvilinear forms and bold colours. By incorporating these fluid curves, the design adds visual connectivity, while capturing attention with the loud immersive contrast of colours. As well as RGB LED matrix feature wall, intensifying the ambiance and mood.

A group of young and enthusiastic entrepreneurs approached Clarity Concepts to reimagine an unconventional and vibrant bar experience in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong’s centre of nightlife and entertainment.

Giving rise to the concept of “Tranquillity of Ocean Waves During Sunset”.

From the beginning, our goal was to create a space that would encompass various moods, emulating the intense emotions of beachside sunset and transcending excitements of night-time.

The design aims to create a surreal and immersive experience, drawing inspiration from funky, whimsical elements that enhance the overall aesthetic. These playful components not only complement the broader design theme, but also serve as eye-catching, memorable features that encourage patrons to revisit the space and use it as an Instagram-worthy backdrop.

To bring this idea to life, we incorporated curves as a design language, drawing inspiration from ocean waves.

To achieve the desired double curvature shapes, we chose GRG (Glass Fibre Reinforced Gypsum) as one of the primary building materials.

Venetian Plaster & Texture Paint was skilfully applied On-site to these GRG surfaces, infusing them with bold colours reminiscent of beach sunsets, in addition a RGB LED matrix feature wall that was designed to represent the lighting effects of sunset.

The main materials chosen for the sofas were velvet textures, which provide a subtle lustre reminiscent of the way light reflects off water.

casting a hazy, mist-like effect over the landscape.

By using wave-like curvilinear forms and bold colours Ripples successfully creates a surreal environment for users and costumers. The intentional use of white for the bar represents the frothy white water of waves, providing a serene space for patrons to unwind and enjoy their drinks. To reinforce the theme and ensure easy maintenance, we selected a white solid surface with a touch of silver dust.

Each step the patron takes through this environment created a subtle rippling effect. We successfully created a serene and tranquil beach scene, with patrons relaxing on the shore as gentle waves wash up against the sand. The sky is filled with the warm glow of an amber sunset, casting a hazy, mist-like effect over the landscape. The design concept carries through even to the washrooms, where the niche spaces are often overlooked. The color scheme in the female washroom is not just flashy, but gives a bright, shocking impression to female patrons every time they open the door – perfect for touch-ups during a whimsical ladies’ night out.

In contrast, the male washroom has the same design concept, but with a more subtle colour scheme. The darker shades bring out the flashier choice of decor elements that pop against the subtle background.
